Frequently Asked Questions

If I’ve never driven a motorhome will I find it hard?

The motorhome itself is very easy and comfortable to drive and the 2.3L diesel engine makes driving up even the steepest of  hills easy. You will, however, need to be aware that you are driving a much wider and taller vehicle than you may be used to. Therefore, you may need to keep an eye out for hazards that you would not notice driving a car. The motorhome will also have a much larger turning circle than you are used to.

How many drivers are permitted to drive the motorhome and are there any restrictions?

One driver is allowed within the hire charges. (additional drivers will incur a £35.00 charge)  All drivers must be over 25 and under 75 years of age and have a valid C1 entitlement on their Driving Licence (generally people who passed their driving test before January 1997 will have this but you can either check on the rear of your driving licence or check with the DVLA here https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence ).  The  C1 entitles you to drive vehicles between 3,500 kg - 7,500 kg.  Our motorhome is 4005 kg.  Driver's licence must be free of endorsements except for minor speeding or parking offences (if you have more than 6 points on your licence please contact us and we can contact our insurer).

What documents do I need to provide to hire the motorhome?
• Your full driving licence
• Two proofs of residential address.  This must be in the form of a utility bill dated within 3 months of your hire date.  This is to comply with our insurance policy.
• We will ask you to provide a DVLA driving summary to validate your driving licence information with up to date details for our insurance purposes. We will require access to your online DVLA record. This is to validate any driving endorsements that you may have.

Is insurance included in the hire charge?
Full Comprehensive Insurance for the vehicle is included in the hire charge. There may be insurance surcharges dependent on driving history, minor convictions, and health restrictions. It is the hirers responsibility to provide full and accurate information.  In the event of the motor policy being invalidated because of non disclosure of relevant facts the company will hold the hirer responsible for all losses, fines and any other eventualities.

Please note this insurance does not include internal fixtures, fittings and equipment, or any optional equipment that may have been added. Hirers are advised to take out their own travel insurance which includes personal possessions. Please note Go Explore Motorhome Hire will NOT be held responsible for any loss/damage of this nature.

Why do you require a security damage deposit?

The security damage deposit is refundable upon return of the Motorhome on time, undamaged, with a clean cooker/oven, interior and with the chemical toilet cassette cleaned & emptied. In the event of any damage to our vehicle (internally or externally) the £1,250 damage deposit, or part of it, would go towards the repair(s).  For any insurance claim or accidental damage (internally or externally) £1,250 is your maximum liability.

Do you have breakdown cover?
Yes we have National Breakdown cover for both the UK and Europe.

Will I be shown how to use everything in the motorhome before we set off?

Absolutely. We will give a detailed demonstration of how everything works when you collect the motorhome. Depending on if you have hired or owned a motorhome before or if this is your first time will dictate how long this takes but please allow up to an hour for this. We will also email you a link to videos that we have produced explaining how various things work on the motorhome prior to your arrival, so you can arrive with some prior knowledge. These can also be accessed during your time away if you are unsure of anything and we are more than happy to take calls from you if you should need any assistance.

Is there heating in the motorhome? Can I use the motorhome for winter touring?

Yes, the motorhome is fantastically insulated to either keep you warm in the winter or cool in the summer. There there is a duel fuel heating system on-board powered by gas or electric. You can choose to heat specific zones of the motorhome through a series of heating vents or just the main fireplace or choose both. Along with thick walls and a deep floor this makes the motorhome suitable for winter touring in the coldest of weathers.

Do you allow dogs in your motorhome?

As dog owners ourselves, we are happy for you to bring along your well behaved four legged friend, after all they don't want to miss out on all the fun!  We accept up to 2 small/medium dogs OR 1 large dog.  Please note the breed will have to be specified on the booking form and we reserve the right to refuse.  We do ask that dogs are strictly not allowed on any of the furniture/seats/beds and should there be evidence this has happened, we may, unfortunately, need to retain a portion of your security deposit for specialised cleaning services.

Do you allow smoking in your motorhome?

By law and for the comfort of all our customers smoking is NOT permitted in our motorhome.

Can I take the motorhome to festivals?

Yes, you can indeed take our motorhome to a festival, however there is an added premium for this service and permission to do so has to be obtained prior to hiring.

Can I leave my car with you?

You are welcome to leave your car in our parking area. We would request that you leave a set of keys with us incase we need to  move the vehicle.  You leave it at your own risk.

Where is collection of the motorhome?

We are based in Bracknell, Berkshire, approximately 10 minutes from the M3 & M4 and about 20 minutes from the M25.

What is provided, what should I take?

We provide a large range of crockery, cutlery, glasses, bottle openers and all the necessary cooking utensils you will need for your stay together with a range of camping type accessories, outside table & 6 chairs, plus an outdoor cooking griddle. We also provide bottom sheets for all beds and a hand towel for the bathroom and kitchen tea towels as well as washing up liquid, sponges, bin bags and basic cleaning equipment. You will need to provide your own bedding such as duvets, pillows and/or sleeping bags plus bath towels, however, we do provide a bedding package if this is something that you would prefer (additional cost). The motorhome also has an LED TV with built in DVD player and there a selection of DVDs to choose from for both children and adults. The TV has an HDMI input so you may wish to bring your own Firestick/Multi-Media device/games console to plug in should you desire.

How should we plan our holiday?

It is definitely best to plan your trip before you leave as many of the popular campsites get booked up early. Where possible make sure they have the practical facilities you require, such as power, water and waste disposal facilities. Many sites now have all 3 of these facilities at each individual pitch. It can be confusing if you have never done this before but rest assured we can explain it more fully when you book with us and assist you as much as possible.

Is there a mileage restriction?
No, however, there are additional costs incurred with travel to Scotland (£20 per day) and Europe (£30 per day) due to the increased mileage (and to cover additional insurance/breakdown cover for Europe).

Are there power points in the motor-home?
Yes, there are numerous plug sockets and 12 volt chargers (the ones you have in your car), plus USB charging points. So please feel free to bring along your iPads, games consoles and hair straighteners. Serious Glamping!

How many miles per gallon can I expect?

Around 25-35 miles per gallon depending on driving style. Our motorhome runs on diesel. We find we get a better MPG when we use a premium diesel fuel, which offsets the added cost at the pumps.

What does hooking up to mains electricity mean?

On most campsites you can park your motorhome on an electric hook-up pitch.  Electric hook up provides mains electricity which powers the fridge, water heater, central heating and re-charges the leisure battery. The on-board 240v plug sockets can only be used when hooked-up to the mains.  However, when completely "off grid" (not connected to electric hook up) you can be self sufficient running off the 12 volt sockets only on the leisure battery for approx 2 days depending on usage.

Do we need to bring our own bedding and towels?

A hand towel in the bathroom, together with tea towels will be provided.  We will also provide bottom sheets for the beds so all you need to bring is your pillows, duvets or sleeping bags and your bath towels. We can, however, provide bedding for you if required (from £20).
